At Leonard Resnick, DDS we have always strived to adopt advanced technology in order to improve our patient’s comfort and experience.
For 2016 we now offer the ability to provide patients with same day porcelain restorations, fillings and crowns with our CEREC system. This in office process consists of a small camera that takes a picture of your tooth, and digitally creates a 3D image. We then send that information to our CEREC milling unit, and in about 20 minutes, your new porcelain restoration is fabricated. It is tried in for fit, and then stained and glazed in our CEREC digital oven. The final porcelain restoration is then cemented in and the visit is complete.
In the past, the fabrication of a crown involved taking rubber impressions, sending them to an outside lab, and waiting two weeks for the crown to be made. The advantage of CEREC is the saving of time, and the superior experience of having the process completed in one visit.
The CEREC CAD/CAM system has been on the market for over 30 years and is backed by over 250 scientific studies which have confirmed their clinical safety and longevity. Worldwide, more than 30 million restorations have been produced with the CEREC technology.
An additional benefit of the CEREC system is the ability to replace the impressions in the mouth with the use of the digital scanner. This results in a much more pleasant patient experience as the scanning of the mouth is so much easier vs. an impression that stays in the mouth for 5 minutes.
Catherine Hon, DDS is trained in the use of the CEREC system to scan the mouth for those patients undergoing Invisalign treatment. This process of scanning the entire mouth eliminates the need for any impression taking. The scanned images are then emailed to Invisalign and the aligner trays are mailed to our office. The CEREC system for Invisalign is highly accurate and is a much more comfortable process for our patients.
